Wyatt Earp and The Cowboy War Review
With the exception of Yellowstone, 1883 and 1923, I’m not a Western fan. On the other hand, my husband loves Westerns. Like most, I’ve heard of the gunfight at the O.K. Corral in Tombstone, Arizona. However, I really didn’t know all the details of what exactly went down and why it started. Of course, everyone knows the legend of Wyatt Earp, but it was interesting to learn the true story of this famous character.
As stated before, the series is narrated by Ed Harris. As one of the main characters in Westworld, Harris is no stranger to Westerns. His voice is perfect for retelling this story. The way he narrates reminds me of watching The Dukes of Hazzard reruns as a kid. The quotes and the way he explains the story is both entertaining and informative. And who knew the story would be so juicy.
The events that take place outside the gunfight were the most interesting. The love triangle between Earp, Sheriff Behan and Josephine Marcus and the antics of Ike Clanton were more riveting than the famous gunfight. The way he manipulated the the court system and the press was like something from a fiction novel. It is the definition of truth is stranger than fiction. He got away with murder, literally. More like a Mafia boss of the Cowboys, and yes Cowboys were the bad guys, Clanton wanted to be man in charge of the upscale town of Tombstone. On top of that who would have thought that J.P. Morgan would have a hand to play. Not to mention, the country almost having another civil war due to Clanton’s actions. There’s a lot to unpack and they did a good job of telling the compelling story.
Currently, you can watch all six episodes of Wyatt Earp and The Cowboy War on Netflix.
