FX has had a long history of ground-breaking shows and an impressive number of Emmy nominations. And they continue with a new line of series releasing this month. They have a busy month ahead with several new shows premieres this month including a new show to prime you for the Halloween season. In addition, FX will add a new anthology series to their library. As part of the Hulu family, each will stream on Hulu the following day. See below for a glimpse of what’s coming to FX in September 2024.
English Teacher – September 2nd
It’s time to go back to high school with the new comedy series, English Teacher. Creator, Brian Jordan Alvarez, stars as Evan Marquez, a teacher at Morrison-Hensley High as he navigates his relationships, his students and his fellow faculty. He finds himself in the middle of personal, professional and political aspects all while competing with the demands of Gen Z in a world that seems to be changing everyday. What’s the worse that can happen? Apparently, everything.
The Old Man (Season 2) – September 12th
Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow prove that you are never too old to kick butt. The Old Man returns this month with former CIA agent, Dan Chase, and former FBI Assistant Director, Harold Harper. In season two, the duo set off on their most important mission. They must recover Chase’s daughter after she is kidnapped by a Afghan tribal leader. To make matters worse, she is going through an identity crisis as all three claim to be her father. based on the novel by Thomas Perry, the series is packed with action and political intrigue as lines between friends and enemies become blurred. If this season is anything like the first, we will be on the edge of our seats.
American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez – September 17th
FX has become the king of anthology series. With shows such as American Horror Story, Fargo and American Crime Story, they have a formula that works. Their latest addition revolves around sports. American Sports Story will feature stories straight from the headlines of the biggest names in sports. Told through multiple perspectives, the series will focus on prominent events and their legacy in sports and American culture. The first installment is based on the podcast, Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc. from the Boston Globe and Wondery. It charts rise and fall of NFL superstar Aaron Hernandez and his tumultuous life. As a former New England Patriots, he was convicted of murder and later committed suicide in prison. Take a deep dive into his psyche and learn why he did what he did as he battled demons both on and off the field.
Grotesquerie – September 25th
After seeing The Conjuring 2, nuns have been in our nightmares. Now, FX wants to taunt us with more. In the series, Grotesquerie, a small town grapples with a series of heinous crimes. Feeling overwhelmed, Detective Lois Tyron (Niecy Nash-Betts) accepts the help of Sister Megan, a nun and journalist with the Catholic Guardian. However, as they begin to piece together the clues, they become ensnared in a web of secrets that could put both of them in jeopardy. Maybe, Travis Kelce can shed some light. Making his acting debut, Kelce has signed on in an undisclosed role in the series. Will he be friend or foe? I guess we’ll have to wait for the premiere.
Social Studies – September 27th
With shows such as The Weekly and The New York Times Presents, FX is no stranger to documentaries. Their new docuseries, Social Studies, will explore the lives of the first generation raised on social media. Over the span of a year, they follow a group of teens in Los Angeles who have opened up their lives and phones to give viewers a glimpse of how social media has changed their childhood. From battling bullying, unrealistic beauty standards, comparison pressures, racism, sexuality and more, we discover the journey of growing up in a digital era. With the pressures teens face today, going up in the 80s and 90s wasn’t so bad.
