Making his directorial debut, Jerry Seinfeld, shows that milk is optional in the new Netflix movie about world most popular breakfast treat, Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story.
What is Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story About?
Jerry Seinfeld has had Pop-Tarts on the brain for some time. According to Seinfeld, “My first memory of Pop-Tarts is, once I tasted it, I assumed they would not continue to make other types of food. It would no longer be necessary to eat anything else.”. As far back as 2010, he has been wanting to make a movie about the tasty pastry. So during the pandemic, Seinfeld began writing the script for the film he would eventually direct and star in. “[Co-writer] Spike Feresten and I, as a joke, would say to each other, ‘Let’s make a movie about Pop-Tarts’, Seinfeld told Netflix.
It’s a tale of ambition, betrayal, sugar, and menacing milkmen. Set in 1963, the story takes place one year before Pop-Tarts hit grocery stores. During this time, sworn cereal rivals, Kellog’s and Post, were locked into a battle to create a pastry that could have a long shelf life. Soon, Post CEO, Majorie Post (Amy Schumer), finally unlocks the process for dehydrating stored food products. Not to be out done, Kellogg’s CEO, Bob Cabana (Jerry Seinfeld), wants to get in on the action. He assembles his own team of scientists like Chef Boyardee and others to stay ahead of the game. As a result, it sends both companies into a race that would eventually be the invention of the Pop-Tart and change the face of breakfast.
