Trigger Warning Review
It seems like it’s been a while since we’ve seen Jessica Alba in a film. However, with works such as Sin City, The Fantastic Four and L.A.’s Finest, she has made a name for herself in action. Even though she has a small frame, she makes the fight scenes believable in this film. While most of the fight choreography is nothing you haven’t seen before, there’s enough fighting and explosions to keep it entertaining. But that’s where the good things end. It all starts with the beginning scene. While I understand there has to be a baseline to understand who her character is, it seems a little out of place, almost like an after thought. The CGI used for the trucks and the crash during the first scene was horrible. Thankfully, the special effects for the rest of the movie were better.
Just as with the action, the characters are typical. There’s the corrupt politician, the selfish brother who always gets into trouble and the good brother who always has to clean up their messes. Although, Elvis is one of those characters you love to hate. He’s one of those characters that starts to get on your nerves after a while and you’re happy when he dies. Even Alba’s character was just ok. We kept finding ourselves thinking, “would you just sit down somewhere.”
As for the plot, again nothing new. Someone finds out about what the bad guys are doing and he gets killed for it. Then a family members learns what happens and wants revenge. Parker’s father, a former Green Beret, stumbles across Elvis stealing weapons such as machine guns and RPGs from the military and selling it to the black market. In particular to selling to a white supremacist. As long as he’s getting paid, Elvis has no problem taking his money. On the other hand, Jesse is a bit disturbed by it but goes along with it anyway to help his brother.
All in all, it’s still an ok movie to watch if there’s nothing on, especially if you like action. It’s like one of those movies that wasn’t good enough to play in theaters so they release right away on demand. It is a typical movie, with a typical plot, with typical characters and some better than okay action. You can stream it now exclusively on Netflix.
