Robert De Niro plays dual roles as two of New York’s most notorious organized crime bosses in The Alto Knights.
What is The Alto Knights about?
As stated above, De Niro portrays both Vito Genovese and Frank Costello. Vito was the leader of the Genovese crime family and a childhood friend of the legendary Lucky Luciano. Together they shape the Mafia’s rise as a major force in organized crime in the United States. In addition, he facilitated the expansion of the heroin trade to an international level
On the other hand, Frank joined New York City gangs as a child. After working with Lucky in the bootlegging operations during Prohibition, he climbed the ranks to become the acting boss of the Luciano crime family.
Both would vie for control of the streets of New York City. Once the best of friends, petty jealousies and a series of betrayals place them on a deadly collision course that will reshape the Mafia (and America) forever.
