Teacup
What is Teacup about?
James and Maggie Chenoweth (Scott Speedman and Yvonne Strahovski) live on a secluded farm in Georgia with their daughter, Meryl (Émilie Bierre), and son, Arlo (Caleb Dolden). One day, the animals on their form become spooked and restless. Seeing one of their goats flee to the woods, Arlo decides to follow him. Their animals are the only ones affected. Their neighbors, the Shanleys, bring their horse to Maggie to treat after impaling itself on a fence. It’s then when they realize that Arlo is missing.
After hours of searching, Arlo returns by himself somewhat confused and disoriented. Somehow, he seems a little different. Stranger still, a mysterious man arrives in a homemade gas mask and spray paints a blue line in their driveway. He holds up a sign with “Don’t trust anyone” written on it and leaves. Unaware of the danger they are in, all hell breaks loose when one the neighbors cross the blue line.
Teacup Review
In all honesty, when we first saw the trailer, the show looked okay. We figured it was like any other show, a man, this time with a gas mask, killing people he just so happened to stumble upon. In fact, there so many other shows and movies out that we decided to wait and watch it last. Boy, were we wrong. It turned out to be better than everything we watched during that weekend.
Before we get started, let’s talk about the trailer. When you watch the trailer, the studio was very careful not to reveal too much about the show. Most of the time, when you see a trailer, you usually know everything that will happen. At the same time, all the good stuff is in the trailer. Not in this case. When things begin to happen you are genuinely surprised, especially when it gets to the WTF did I just see part. Similar to the first trailer for From, you think you know what’s going on, but you don’t know the half of it.
From the beginning, you can tell something is not quite right. At the start, a woman in the woods is trying to free her hands from a zip tie. You don’t know who she is or where she came from. All of a sudden, she stops and says what sounds like “murder-maker”. Then she snaps out of it, frees herself and runs into the forest. Then the focus shifts to the family. They are all dealing with issues of their on and are blissfully unaware of anything weird happening. So much so, it’s dark when they finally realize Arlo is missing. Soon, he returns to the farm on his own covered in bruises, speaking incoherently after encountering the strange woman.
It is evident that there is a strain on James and Maggie’s relationship. The grandmother, Ellen (Kathy Baker), is smoking marijuana to help her MS. Of course, Meryl is a typical teenager while Arlo is a boy who likes to play in the woods. And they had to throw in a Karen and a grumpy old man. Despite that, with everything happening around them, you’re looking for answers, especially when the gas mask guy shows up. By the end of the second episode, you will be hooked.
If you are a fan of From, you’ll like this show. It has the same feel, however the first episode isn’t nearly as good. However, the second episode definitely got our attention. We’re curious to see how it will progress.
Currently, you can watch the first two episodes of Teacup on Peacock.
