Road House Review
Dalton is back and does not hold his punches in the reimagining of a cult classic on Prime Video. In our Road House review, we discuss what we liked and what we didn’t in this spoiler-free review.
What is Road House About?
Taking inspiration from the 1989 film, Road House, follow an ex-UPC fighter, Dalton (Jake Gyllenhaal) trying to escape his dark past. Let’s just say, he can have a little too much fun fighting. After spotting him in an underground fight club, Frankie (Jessica Williams), hires him to be a bouncer at her bar after local gang has been harassing it. But Frankie has left out a few details. All is not as it seems when he confronts the gang. But the stakes get even higher when a gun for hire, Knox (Conor McGregor), shows up. Yes, that’s right Conor McGregor is in this movie. In fact, Austin Post, better known as Post Malone, makes a cameo appearance.
Road House Review
As a director, Doug Liman, is no stranger to action films. Under his belt are The Bourne Identity, 2005’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Edge of Tomorrow. So it goes without saying, he can make an action film. If you love over-the-top action movies, you will love this film. The plot was typical but we had a lot of fun watching it. However, we still both prefer the original 1989 Road House to this film. Mainly, it comes down to the character. Gyllenhaal did a great job, but Patrick Swayze’s character had a little bit more charm. It boils down to the plot of the movie. Swayze’s Dalton had a PhD in psychology but had a black belt in martial arts. Gyllenhaal’s character was centered more as someone trying to redeem himself. Both characters are great, I just preferred Swayze’s Dalton better. However, if you are looking for a fun movie that doesn’t take itself too seriously, you’ll like this film.
Does Road House have an end-credit scene?
Yes, Road House does have a mid-credit scene. It appears right after the animated, credits. While not giving away too much about the plot, the scene involves on of the main characters in the film. After that, the credits roll as normal.
You can watch Road House, along with the original 1989 version, on Prime Video.
