What is Piece By Piece about?
Pharrell Williams has always marched to the beat of his own drum, not to mention he still look the same twenty years later. So of course, he has to have a creative spin on his biopic. Instead of taking the normal route of hiring actors and finding filming locations to re-create his story, he does things a little different. To chronicle his life and music career, Williams opts to document his journey in the style of LEGO animation.
While he considered creating a story about his life for a while, it was a conversation with Morgan Neville that sparked the idea of an animated musical. Then, the rest was history. Together with Neville, they partnered with The Lego Group and began the process. As a result, the company started creating pieces to better represent the African American culture. Additionally, figures were designed for music equipment and stars of the film. Alongside Williams and Neville, the film stars the voices of Gwen Stefani, Timbaland, Kendrick Lamar, Justin Timberlake, Busta Rhymes, Jay-Z and Snoop Dogg. He even wrote five original songs, including the title song of the soundtrack, Piece By Piece.
