Aliens are among us and they are in the form of parasites. There goal is to gain control over humanity by taking human hosts in the Netflix series, Parasyte: The Grey.
What is Parasyte: The Grey About?
Based on the manga, Parasyte, written and illustrated by Hitoshi Iwaaki, Parasyte: The Grey follows a mutant-human hybrid woman on the run. Set in the same universe, spores began falling from the sky around the world. These squishy looking balls are actually aliens from another planet. There only way to survive is by crawling into the brains of humans and make them hosts. Jeong Su-in (Jeon So-nee) is one of these unfortunate hosts.
It seems after nearly dying in a car accident, one of these parasites has embedded themselves in her. While most hosts have been completely taken over by their symbiote, Su-in still has somewhat control over herself.
To combat these new hybrids, a powerful team known as the Grey are created to eradicate the threat. Since both co-exist together, neither belong to either side. In order to survive, the pair has to choose which side to align themselves with. Meanwhile, within the complex web of alliances some are plotting to betray her.
Unlike the anime, Parasyte: The Maxim, the new series is set in a Namil, South Korea, instead of Fukuyama, Hiroshima, Japan. In addition, the series charts its own course expanding upon the original story. In both the manga and anime series, a parasite tries to enter 17-year old Shinichi Izumi. After waking up, the spore burrows into his arm instead of his brain. Cutting off the circulation of his arm, he prevents the alien from going any further. As a result, he and his parasite, Migi, retain their separate intellects and personalities. Fighting as one, they combat blood-thirsty parasites along with the help of a brewing military force.
