What is Mary & George About?
Inspired by the unbelievable story, Julianne Moore stars as Mary Villiers, Countess of Buckingham. Best known as the mother of George Villiers (Nicholas Galitzine), 1st Duke of Buckingham, the series tells the story of what a mother is willing to do for her son.
Once a lady’s maid, Mary married her way up the ranks by bribing politicians and working with criminals. Upon her husband’s death, she proclaimed herself Countess of Buckingham. During her marriage, she had four children, one of which was George. To become the richest, most powerful person in the world, Mary has molded her son to to seduce King James I (Tony Curran) and become his lover.
In the midst of all of this, rioters have taken to the streets to denounce the King while England faces an outside threat. This gives Mary and George the opportunity to put their scheme in place. Despite the interference of the King’s most trusted advisors, both conquered the court of England and the bed of King James I.

Since the release of a red band trailer from Starz for the series, Mary & George is definitely rated TV-MA. The rating is due to language, violence and nudity.
