The first live-action series of the Sonic The Hedgehog franchise, follows Knuckles on his action-packed journey of self discovery as he takes on the role of mentor.
What is Knuckles About?
Based on the video game by Sega, Knuckles (Idris Elba) is one of Sonic’s arch nemesis turned best friend. With his brute strength he was a formidable foe for Sonic. During live-action film, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, he was introduced as the main antagonist. In the film, Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carey) enlists the help of the Echidna, Knuckles, to defeat Sonic (Ben Schwartz). After Dr. Robotnik has no use for him anymore, Knuckles joins Sonic and Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey), Sonic’s sidekick, and vows to protect them from evil.
The series takes place between the events of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3, releasing later this year. Now on Earth, the villain turned hero is many ways a fish out of water. While navigating his new life, he meets deputy sheriff of Green Hills, Wade Whipple (Adam Pally). To be better equipped at his job, Whipple asks him to be his mentor. Reluctantly, Knuckles agrees to train him as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior. At the same time, several of Dr. Robotnik’s henchmen are hot on Knuckles trail intent on obtaining his power. Given that he does his best to defeat them while still maintaining his role as mentor. Finally, yes, we will see Sonic, Tails and many characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog movies.

Since the live-action series is a family program, Knuckles has a rating of TV-PG.

All six episodes of Knuckles will premiere exclusively on Paramount+ on Friday, April 26, 2024. Meanwhile, you can watch Sonic The Hedgehog 2 and other Sonic the Hedgehog movies and shows on Paramount+ as well.

Who is Behind Knuckles?
As co-creator and head writer of the series, John Whittington also wrote Sonic The Hedgehog 2. The other co-creator is Ton Ascher who is showrunning the production. Additional writers are Brian Schacter and James Madejski. To create a cohesive story, the creative team from the previous Sonic films were brought in, including the director, Jeff Fowler.
