Inspired by an unbelievable true story, Hit Man, starring Glen Powell, is based on a professor who discovers his hidden talent as a fake hit man.
What is Hit Man About?
Gary Johnson (Glen Powell) is a strait-laced college professor who dabbles as a tech guy. Discovering his talent for disguise, he begins to moonlight as a fake contract killer for the New Orleans Police Department. With each case, he uses his fake personas to catch people hoping to off their enemies. However, things get a little too deep when he meets Madison (Adria Arjona). Posing as Ron, one of his alias, Gary is attracted to the woman who wants to kill her husband. In due time, Gary falls in love and their affair sets of a chain reaction of high stakes events. When her husband is found dead, he has to deal with the repercussions of his actions.
Although the movie may seem like a work of fiction, but is actually based on a true story. Basically, the film was inspired by a Texas Monthly story by Skip Hollandsworth. In the article, Hollandsworth recounts the life of now-deceased Gary Johnson. Using alias such as Mike Caine, Jody Eagle and Chris Buck, he was employed with the Harris County district attorney’s office. For a decade, over 60 people have paid him to rub out their enemies. Among his clients are scorned lovers, housewives, business men and teenagers. In fact, he even has gone to county jail to visits inmates who want him to shoot witnesses.
Even though the film is based on a real guy, the director makes it clear the bigger plot twists are completely fictional. Either way, it promises to be one hell of a story.
