The most interesting man in the 1700s, embarks on a secret mission to help America gain its independence in the Apple TV+’s limited series, Franklin.
What is Franklin About?
We’ve all seen the Dos Equis beer commercials referring to “the most interesting man in the world.” But the true “most interesting man in the world” was Benjamin Franklin. As a writer, scientist, inventor, salesman, diplomat, printer, publisher and political philosopher, he was a man of many talents. In addition, he was one of the Founding Fathers and a drafter and signer of the Declaration of Independence.
Based on Pulitzer Prize winner, Stacy Schiff’s book, A Great Improvisation: Franklin, France, and the Birth of America, the limited series focuses on his time in France in December 1977. After his experiments with electricity, Benjamin Franklin (Michael Douglas) is known around the world. Now, at 70, he wants to make a difference and help America win its independence.
Although he has no diplomatic training, he knows with his fame and ingenuity, he can be an asset. As a result, he sails to France on a secret mission to convince the monarchy to allow America to try an experiment in democracy. Lasting eight years, it is still regarded as the single greatest mission by an ambassador in the nation’s history. With only his wits, he outmaneuvers British spies, French informers and hostile colleagues to engineer the Franco-American Alliance of 1778 and the peace treaty with Great Britain in 1783. Without him and French aid, America may not have won the Revolution.
What is Franklin Rated?
