The relationship of two friends are put to the test when the one of them who hasn’t quite grown up gets pregnant in the new film, Babes. It is a film that explores the complexities of female friendship and navigates the process and raging hormones of pregnancy with a blend of laughter and tears.
What is Babes About?
Eden (Ilana Glazer) and Dawn (Michelle Buteau) have been best friends since childhood. Having grown up together in New York City, they are inseparable. Now, as adults, things have changed. Eden lives a single carefree life in the town they grew up in, Astoria. On the other hand, Dawn, pregnant with her second child, recently moved with her husband Marty (Hasan Minhaj) and their toddler. Even though they don’t live by each other anymore, they still find time for each other.
However, their bond get put to the test after Eden gets pregnant after a one night stand. Deciding to keep the baby, she heavily leans on her friends who is now a mother of two. With raising two small children of her own, it’s a tall order that could complicate their relationship. Even though the challenges of adulthood and bring a parent can be messy, their friendship can overcome all obstacles.
What is Babes Rated?
The film has a rating of R for sexual material, language and drug use. This is a film about childbirth after all.

During Mother’s Day weekend, an early access Q&A live streaming event with the actors are available at participating theaters. Currently, tickets are on sale in select cities on May 17, 2024 as well as everywhere on May 24th.

Who is Behind Babes?
In addition to starring in the film, Glazer is the co-writer along with Josh Rabinowitz. Making her feature directorial debut with the film is Pamela Adlon. Having been acquired in October 2023 by Neon, it made its world premiere at South by Southwest with rave reviews.
