Seen through the eyes of its members follow the rise of a Chicago motorcycle club, the Vandals, as they navigate life in The Bikeriders.
What is The Bikeriders about?
Set in the 1960s, the movie is based on the 1967 photo book of the same name by Danny Lyon depicting the lives of the Outlaws MC. Incorporated as the American Outlaws Association (A.O.A.), it is the oldest motorcycle club in the world. With 441 chapters located in 43 countries, and a membership of over 3,000, the club is also the third-largest in the world, behind the Hells Angels and the Bandidos. It is designated as an organized crime syndicate by numerous law enforcement agencies, including the United States Department of Justice, the Criminal Intelligence Service Canada, and Europol.
Instead of reenacting the Outlaws MC story, the film is a fictional re-telling of the biker club, Vandals MC. Seen through the eyes of its members and their families, the club evolves over the course of a decade from a surrogate family of outcasts into organized crime. In essence, the original founder’s vision and way of life gets lost along the way.
The story focuses primary on three main characters, Kathy (Jodie Comer), Benny (Austin Butler) and Johnny (Tom Hardy). Johnny, the founder and leader, creates a local club of outsiders united by good times and motorcycles. One of these misfits is Benny. Even though Benny is wild and reckless, he is drawn to the club with teaching of brotherly love and community.
Soon, Benny catches the eye and marries Kathy, also a member of the club. However, Kathy grows increasingly wary of the club as things begin to change. It becomes more dangerous as the members begin to dabble in violence and crime. Fearing that Benny will get caught up in the gang’s devolution, Kathy urges him to leave. As a result, Benny has to choose between the love of his life and his loyalty to the club.
What is The Bikeriders rated?
