When a mysterious villain threatens to open the gates of Hell, a demon hunter could be the world’s best hope in Netflix’s Devil May Cry.

What is Devil May Cry about?

Sinister forces are at play at the portal between the human and demon realms. In the middle of it all is Dante, an orphaned demon hunter for hire, unaware that the fate of both worlds hangs around his neck.

It is based on the popular action-adventure game of the same name, developed by Capcom and created by Hideki Kamiya. In the game Dante, a demon hunter, who makes it his life’s mission to avenge his mother’s death by killing all demons. 

Led by Adi Shankar, the creator, showrunner, and executive producer, with animation from Studio Mir, the animated series comes to Netflix. Previously he and his development partner, Alex Larsen, worked on another video game adaptation, Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix. As a result, Netflix entrusted the pair with this new project.

According to Shankar, “I’m honored that Netflix and Capcom have entrusted me to shepherd the DEVIL MAY CRY franchise.” His message to excited fans? “Get hyped.”

All episodes of the first season is scheduled to stream on Netflix on April 3, 2024.

The series has a rating of TV-MA for gore, language, smoking, substance abuse and violence.
