After the success of their seriesThe Sandman, Netflix expands the franchise with new characters from the graphic novels. Based on the fourth book of Neil Gaiman’s comic series, Season of Mists, Dead Boy Detectives was born.
What is Dead Boy Detectives About?
Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri) and Edwin Paine (George Rexstrew) have decided not to enter the after life. Although dead, the best friends are decades apart. While at boarding school in 1916, a group of bullies offered up Edwin’s soul to hell. After being tormented for 70 years, he escapes and meets Charles. On the other hand, Charles died in 1990 after being attached by bullies at the same boarding school. Quickly they become friends and opt to stay on Earth to use their powers for good.
As ghosts in the boarding school, they study numerous library books and films in order to become detectives. Now with their very own detective agency, they plan to track down ghosts and demons. Along with a clairvoyant, Crystal (Kassius Nelson) and her friend Niko (Yuyu Kitamura), they fight the supernatural. From witches to bloody monsters, they want to keep the world safe. After the gang cracks some of the world’s most mystifying paranormal occurrences, they land their biggest case yet.
Although Sandman franchise streams on Netflix, the graphics novels are apart of DC’s library. Originally to be aired on Max as a spin off of Doom Patrol, the series makes the move to Netflix since it was more compatible with the Sandman universe. As we can see from the trailers below, it looks to be the right move.
