The BAU is back in Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 as they investigate Gold Star & continue to get answers from serial killer, Elias Voit.

What is Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 about?

Season two is more like Criminal Minds season 17. After Criminal Minds ended in 2020, the series was rebooted in 2022 under the title Criminal Minds: Evolution. It follows a group of profiles, many from the original series, who work for the FBI in the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU). They use behavioral analysis and profiling to investigate crimes and find the unsub or unidentified subject.

In the last season, the team’ was sent to’s case was to track down a network of serial killers formed during the pandemic. Their main goal is to hunt down the ring leader, Sicarius, to put an end to the killings. During their investigation, David Rossi (Joe Mantegna) is caught in Sicarius’s trap. However, the BAU saves Rossi and identifies Sicarius as Elias Voit (Zach Gilford). After catching Voit, the team learns about Gold Star, a highly classified government secret.

After only agreeing to speak with the Attorney General, Voit kills him, making Voit the only person who knows the truth. Although we don’t know the full secret about Gold Star, more will be revealed in season 2. In the new season, as the team investigates the mystery of Gold Star, they meet an unexpected complication. Voit negotiates a deal that transfers him to federal custody. As a result, the BAU team faces their biggest threat yet.

The first two episodes will premiere on Paramount+ and Prime Video with Paramount+ on Thursday, June 6, 2024. After that a new episode will debut each week on Thursday until the final episode airs.

Who is behind Criminal Minds: Evolution?

The series  is produced by ABC Signature and CBS Studios. Erica Messer (Criminal Minds, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders) serves as showrunner and executive producer, with Breen Frazier, Chris Barbour, Glenn Kershaw and Mark Gordon also executive producing. In addition to starring in the series, Gilford will make his directorial debut, directing some episodes.
