In the fourth installment of the franchise, Bridget Jones (Renée Zellweger) is alone once again. After her husband, Mark (Colin Firth) is killed on a humanitarian mission in the Sudan, she is left a widow. Now, she’s a single mother to 9-year-old Billy and 4-year-old Mabel. With the help of her friends and her former lover, Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant), she raises her kids. Still stuck between heartbreak and healing, her friends make a plan to help her move on.
Shazzer (Sally Phillips), Jude (Shirley Henderson), Tom (James Callis), her work colleague Miranda (Sarah Solemani), her mother (Gemma Jones), and her gynecologist Dr. Rawlings (Emma Thompson) tries everything to help. With this in mind, Bridget goes back to work and even tries some dating apps. Soon, she captures the attention of a younger man (Leo Woodall). Compare to before, now she’s juggling work, home and romance. At the same time, she’s dealing with feelings of inadequacy as a parent as her son grapples with his father’s passing. This leads to a series of awkward interactions with her son’s science teacher (Chiwetel Ejiofor).
