Jennifer Lopez is stranded on a far-off planet in order to protect life on Earth in the new Netflix sci-fi action film, Atlas.
What is Atlas About?
Jennifer Lopez is no stranger to action with films like Anaconda and Enough. One of her most recent projects was a collaboration with Netflix in The Mother. In the film, she portrays an assassin who emerges from the shadows to protect her daughter. Now, she travels to outer space to protect someone else…everyone on planet Earth.
As a government data analyst at International Coalition of Nations (ICN), Atlas Shepherd has a huge distrust of artificial intelligence. Who can blame her. With the rise of AI, we all could very well be living in the Terminator in the near future. Her mistrust is due to an incident she has with a renegade robot, Harlan, in the past. Since her mother created him to serve humanity, in a weird way the he is her brother. In fact, it’s for this reason she is joins an expedition to travel in outer space to planet GR39. Her mission is to capture the very same robot she has misgivings about.
In either case, plans go awry, leaving her stranded on the a distant world with the android. The only hope of saving herself and the future of humanity to seek help and trust the AI.
I loved that this is a big sci-fi action movie, but at its core, it’s a story of friendship — and a love story, in a way. I always see everything as a love story, but this is a different kind of love between two beings who connect in disastrous circumstances, and teach each other how to be more human.
