Celebrated sleuth, Hercule Poirot, is back to investigate a murder at a decaying, haunted palazzo in Venice in the latest Agatha Christie adaptation, A Haunting in Venice.
The unsettling supernatural thriller is based upon the novel Hallowe’en Party. This is the first time the book has been adapted into a feature film. Another key points, Kenneth Branagh is back to direct the film as he did for 2017’s Murder on the Orient Express. In addition, he continues his role as famed detective Hercule Poirot. And yes, Poirot still sports the ‘stache. It wouldn’t be him without it.
Although the book is set in the UK, the setting has been changed to Italy. The events take place after 2022’s Death on the Nile. Now in retirement, he moves to the world’s most glamorous city, Venice, for a self-imposed exile. Set in the post World War II era, Poirot receives an invitation to a séance on All Hallows’ Eve.
Reluctantly, he accepts the invitation and attends. During the ceremony, a murder occurs among the guests. Soon, Poirot finds himself thrust into a sinister world of shadows and secrets. As a result, it is up to the former detective to solve the murder.
Rounding out the star studded cast is Kyle Allen, Camille Cottin, Jamie Dornan, Tina Fey, Jude Hill, Ali Khan, Emma Laird, Kelly Reilly, Riccardo Scamarcio and Michelle Yeoh.
