Password sharing has been issue for streaming services for quite some time. Households across the country have been feeling the pinch, so they share their login information to help family members keep costs down. This is especially true for loved ones who are on fixed income. As a result, many streaming services punish those who do this. While not fair, these companies do have to make a profit in order to provide content for us to watch.
To solve this, Disney+ recently announced that it has expanded their paid sharing program. The program allows users to share their Disney+ subscription with a family member or friend. At the present time, Disney+ paid sharing is available in the United States, Canada, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.
How does Disney+ paid sharing work?
According to their policy, your Disney+ subscription is only meant for those in your household. Adding a member outside your household is against the rules. Previously, they would need to get their own subscription. No you can add an Extra Member outside your household to your account for an additional fee.
If you reside in the U.S., an Extra Member can be added at an additional cost of $6.99 per month with the Disney+ Basic Plan (with ads) and $9.99 per month for the Disney+ Premium Plan (no ads). The bad new is, you can only add one Extra Member. While the price is a little cheaper than the normal price, this is unfortunate for those who want to add more than one member. For other members, you will need to purchase an additional Disney+ subscription. Further, the Extra Member program is not available for Disney Bundle subscribers or for subscribers billed through a third party.
Is there an alternate option to Disney+ paid sharing?
Unfortunately, other members outside your household will need sign up for their own Disney+ subscription. In light of this, Disney+ has provided a solution for those individuals. As the account holder, you can transfer a profile to a new subscription or an Extra Member so they can keep their watch history and settings. Consequently, you can’t transfer the primary profiles, minor’s profile and accounts in Junior mode. As always, if you are away from home, you can still login to Disney+ and watch as usual.
With the rising costs of streaming services, viewers are limiting which services to choose from. While not the perfect option, the Extra Member benefit is headed in the right direction for those who want to share their membership with those outside of their household. It’s a better option than paying for another subscription. However, it would be nice if this benefit extended for those who have the Disney+ bundle.
