House of Spoils
What is House of Spoils about?
In order to fulfill her dream owning a farm-to-table affair, a chef (Ariana DeBosea) opens a restaurant at a remote estate. As you can imagine, the pressures are high. As she settles into her venue, she builds her menu and trains her staff while trying to keep her investors happy. She holds herself to high standards as an emerging leader all while trying to find her voice. The last thing she needs is to add something else to her plate. Her new venture is in jeopardy as the spirit of the previous owner plans to sabotage her at every turn.
To bring the characters to life, the cast spent time in the kitchen of Red Paper Clip in New York to expand their culinary knowledge and meet chefs. In addition, DeBose trained for a week with chef Ayesha Nurdjaja of Shukette to sharpen her knife skills, including watching Chef’s Table. To bring the menu to life in the film, the crew enlisted the help of Hungarian chef and food designer, Zoe Hegedus. To top things off, both the directors spent years waitressing and working in New York restaurants.
