Set in Oklahoma in the 1930s, Paulson stars as Margaret Bellum, a mother nearing her breaking point. Living in the heart of the dust bowl, she and her two daughters, Rose (Amiah Miller) and Ollie (Alona Jane Robbins), try their best to survive in a place where dust blocks out the sun. In order to find work, Margaret’s husband leaves his family behind. While she does her best to protect her daughters from horrific dust storms, the girls tend to their farm. In attempts to scare your younger sister, she tells the story of the legend of the Grey Man. He is a spirit carried by dust in the wind and breathed in.
Soon after that a mysterious stranger arrives. Shaken by the story her daughter told previously, Margaret is convinced her family is being threatened by the entity. With this new threat, she takes extremes measures to do whatever she can to protect her family.
