It’s summer and temperatures are rising. Here in Las Vegas, we’ve already reached 100 degrees for the high. And that means the summer movie season has begun. With a kids movie, action, supernatural thrillers and a western, this year there is something for everyone. Once again, we have made a list of the top movies in theaters in June 2024.
Bad Boys: Ride or Die – June 7th
We have been friends of the Bad Boys franchise since the first film debut in 1995. After a 17 year hiatus, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence returned with the third film in 2020. Although it wasn’t as good as the first two, it was still worth watching. Now, Miami policemen Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett are back and this time they are the outlaws. In the fourth installment, Bad Boys: Ride or Die, their former captain, Captain Howard has been framed. Unfortunately, during their investigation, they get caught up in the conspiracy.Not only, do they have to clear Captain Howard’s name, but theirs as well.
The Watchers – June 7th
The daughter of M. Night Shayamalan, Ishana, is making her feature film directorial debut with her new film The Watchers. Just like her father, she wrote the screenplay. With films such as The Sixth Sense and Signs, we’re sure she has picked up a thing or two. Based on the A.M. Shine book of the same name, the film follows a a young woman stranded in the forest. As she searches for a signal, she becomes trapped along with three strangers. In a concrete room with a class wall, each night they are observed by mysterious creatures in the forest. From the looks of the trailer, it seems this will be a good one.
Inside Out 2 – June 14th
It’s time to journey back inside the mind of Riley. This time, she is entering her teenage years and we all know all the emotions that can bring about. In the sequel to Inside Out, Joy, Anger, Sadness, Fear and Disgust have some new emotions moving in. To make room for Anxiety, Envy, Ennui and Embarrassment, her mind is undergoing a renovation. Each fights for control as Riley tries to figure out who she is, her friendships, her family and other things most teenagers deal with.
The Bikeriders – June 21st
This year has been a big year for Austin Butler. Starring in Dune: Part Two and the Apple TV+ limited series, Masters of the Air, he has been busy. Now, he’s starring in The Bikeriders along with Jodie Comer and Tom Hardy. The film is a fictional story of the Outlaws Motor Club, the Vandals. Led by their founder, Johnny (Hardy), the members are united by good times and motorcycles. However, things begin to change as new members lean towards violence and crime. Caught up in the drama is Benny (Butler) and his wife Kathy (Comer). Soon, all three has to decide where their loyalties lie.
A Quiet Place: Day One – June 28th
In this new spin off, A Quiet Place: Day One takes place on the day blind alien creatures landed on Earth. Instead of rural America, it is set in New York City, one of the loudest places in the world. Although much has not been revealed about the plot, as we can see from the trailer the aliens are wrecking havoc in the city. The only way the main characters can survive is to remain silent. Even though John Krasinski is not directing this film, hopefully it will be good as the first two.
Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 – June 28th
Over the past few years there hasn’t been many Westerns in theaters. Following the success of Yellowstone, Kevin Costner is bringing back the Old West. Spanning the four years of the Civil War, movie goers will embark on a journey of how the West was won and lost. Told through the eyes of family, friends and enemies during that time, they learn what it truly means to be an American.
