What is Longing about?
Originally an Israeli film, its predecessor, Ga’ayua, won an award for best screenplay and received 13 Ophir Award nominations. Now, with the original writer and director, the 2017 film finds a new audience in the United States.
In the film, Richard Gere stars as Daniel Bloch. He is a bachelor and business mogul living his best life. One day, he runs into an old girlfriend, Rachel (Suzanne Clément) from his old small town. As they catch up on the last 20 years, she drops a bombshell. After their breakup, she secretly gave birth to her son, Alan. Recently, he died in a car accident. With this startling revelation, he is desperate to learn about his son’s life.
He travels to Alan’s school where his meets his former best friend and a teacher named Alice. As he learns more about his son, he discovers the circumstances around Alan’s death. Additionally, it is revealed that Alan’s girlfriend is pregnant. On top of that, he appeared to have an inappropriate crush on Alice. Soon, he begins to evaluate the life choices that led him to this crossroad.
