The Quiet Place franchise has had everyone thinking twice about making noise since its first release in 2018. Directed by and starring John Krasinski, the franchise has quickly become one of the favorite movie franchises. It gave new meaning to the old proverb of “silence is golden”. With two films already released, fans have been waiting for the arrival of the next installment. Now, a new story comes to theaters this year with a new set of characters in A Quiet Place: Day One.
What is A Quiet Place: Day One About?
Even though the film is set in the same world as the Quiet Place universe, it’s more of a spin-off prequel than a sequel. In the original movies, the Abbott family try to survive in a world where blind alien creatures with super hearing roam the Earth attacking anything they hear. The family takes every precaution to remain silent as not to catch the aliens’ attention.
Much is not known about the plot. Both the trailer and the official description of A Quiet Place: Day One have been vague. We’ve pieced together what we know so far. While the initial movies were set in upstate rural New York, the new film’s location is in New York City. With New York City being one of the loudest cities in the world, this should be good. From cars to people it’s rare for the city to be silent.
As flaming asteroids fall from the sky, a swarm of the sightless aliens descent upon the city during rush hour traffic. Talk about bad timing. Caught in the destruction is Sam (Lupita Nyong’o) and her cat. Soon, she teams up with Eric (Joesph Quinn). Together they try to escape the big city while evading the aliens in hopes of finding solace.
According to the director, he wanted to explore how strangers would interact during the aftermath. While families usually have strong ties, strangers could act differently as they go through the end of the world. But as can be seen from past tragedies, families and strangers alike bond in times of crisis. It will be interesting to see. In addition, hopefully we will learn a little more about the alien creatures and why they landed on our planet.
What is A Quiet Place: Day One Rated?
Currently, the film does not have a rating. However, it may receive a rating of PG-13 as both A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II had the same rating.
