Bodkin
The new Netflix comedic thriller series, Bodkin, is about a crew of podcasters who investigate mysterious disappearances in a small coastal Irish town. According to the creator, he got the initial idea for the show watching and listening to true crime stories and podcasts.
What is Bodkin About?
Although inspired by true crime stories, the series is “not a real story, not a real place” according to executive producer Alex Metcalf. The show follows a trio of podcasters in a small idyllic town in Ireland. About 25 years earlier, three strangers in the coastal town went missing. No one knows what happened to them. Looking to discover his Irish roots, American podcaster, Gilbert Power (Will Forte), goes to Ireland for his next big story. Along with his assistant, Emmy (Robyn Cara) and Dublin investigative journalist Dove (Siobhán Cullen), they probe into the disappearances.
During the town’s annual Samhain celebration, they attempt to uncover the truth of what happened. The traditional Gaelic fall festival that celebrates the end of the harvest season and the longer, darker days to come. This could be a forewarning for the trio. As they delve into their investigation, the begin to realize that the small town has some big secrets. What they discover is a story much bigger and weirder than they ever could have imagined.
How much of this is true, and how much is a story? Once you start asking that question, all of reality falls apart. It’s about the stories that we tell in general, and the stories that we tell ourselves and what violence can we do to ourselves and others.
