A desperate father battles his demons in a race to bring home his mission son in the Netflix limited series, Eric.
What is Eric About?
Set in the 1980s, Vincent Anderson (Benedict Cumberbatch) is one of New York’s leading puppeteers and creator of the hugely popular children’s television show, Good Day Sunshine. Even though Vincent has a successful show, he has plenty of demons. While living with his son, Edgar (Ivan Morris Howe), and wife, Cassie, Gaby Hoffmann), suffers from substance abuse. But his life really begins to unravel when his son goes missing on his way to school.
Struggling to cope with the loss of Edgar, becomes distressed and volatile. Full of guilt, he clings to one of his son’s drawings a a blue monster puppet, Eric. Soon, Vincent forms a weird friendship with the seven-foot tall monster that lives under Edgar’s bed. He begins to believe that if he can get Eric on TV, then Edgar will come home. However, his delusions and erratic behavior starts to alienate his family, colleagues and the detectives trying to help him. As a result, the puppet becomes Vincent’s only ally in the pursuit to bring Edgar home.
In an effort to find the truth of his son’s disappearance, Vincent is exposed to a city grappling with crime, the AIDS epidemic, a forgotten underclass and real monsters that live close to home. At the same time, the detective helping him, Detective Michael Ledroit (McKinley Belcher III) discovers internal corruption and racism within the NYPD while coming to terms with secrets of his own. They both begin to realize that the real monsters aren’t the ones under the bed.

Who is Behind Eric?
In addition to acting in the series, Cumberbatch is also an executive producer. Along with Cumberbatch are Jane Featherstone and Lucy Dyke of Sister. The creator and writer of the show is BAFTA and Emmy Award winner Abi Morgan with Lucy Forbes directing and Holly Pullinger producing. Morgan is also an executive producer via Little Chick.
