Oscar winners Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga star in the musical sequel to the massive 2019 blockbuster Joker film, Joker: Folie à Deux.

What is Joker: Folie à Deux About?

From what we know, Lady Gaga is Dr. Harleen Quinzel. As a psychiatrist assigned to treat Arthur Fleck, also known as The Joker (Phoenix) at Arkham Asylum. If you’ve read the DC comics or seen any of the numerous cartoons and movies, we know how this goes. Due to her curiosity for Fleck, eventually she falls in love with him. In fact, she becomes obsessed and forms a deadly romantic relationship with him. In due time, she becomes his partner in crime, Harley Quinn. As seen in the trailer below, both share what the title suggests folie à deux, meaning “madness for two” in French. It refers to a rare psychiatric syndrome in which two people share the same delusion and sometimes hallucinations.

Unlike the first film the sequel will be a musical. No doubt using Lady Gaga’s vocal talents. Returning to compose the score of the film is Hildur Guðnadóttir. According to the studio, the film is expected to include 15 musical numbers, mostly covers of pre-existing songs. For instance, one of the songs expected to be included is the 1953 song, “That’s Entertainment” from The Band Wagon.

Other than that, the studio has remained tight lipped about the plot. This could be due to the twist we all experienced in the first film. At any rate, as the release date draws near, a few more details shall be released.

The film has a rating of R for some strong violence, language throughout, some sexuality and brief full nudity.

Who is Behind Joker: Folie à Deux?

Serving as director of the film is Todd Phillips, who also directed The Joker. In addition to directing, Phillips co-wrote both films along with Scott Silver. As far as production, the film is produced by Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios in association with Joint Effort.
