What is I Saw The TV Glow About?
Set in the 90s, I Saw The TV Glow, follows a teenager named Owen (Justice Smith – older, Ian Foreman – younger). He is your average teenager in the suburbs just trying to make through life. Lonely and feeling that he doesn’t belong in his body and the world, he does what he can to try and fit in. As with many of us that grew up in the 90s, his favorite past-time is watching television.
Then he meets Maddy (Bridgette Lundy-Paine). She’s lightly older and dealing with the same issues that he is. The two bond over a TV show called “The Pink Opague.” It’s a weird late night show supposedly meant for kids. Similar to Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, in each episode, high schoolers fight supernatural beings. Although frightening, the show gives them an escape from their everyday lives.
All of a sudden, the show is mysteriously canceled. Blurring the lines of fiction and reality, they see a vision of a supernatural world beneath their own. In the process, Maddy vanishes, leaving Owen alone in the most important time of his self-discovery. With his reality beginning to crack, he searches for his friend while navigating life’s pressures and the pressure of this new world.
