In the not too distant future, America is on the verge of all out destruction when rebel forces descend upon the White House in, Civil War.
What is Civil War About?
Meant to mimic the current circumstances of the United States, Civil War, follow a team of journalists documenting tensions across America. Led by veteran war photographer, Lee Smith (Kirsten Dunst), the crew travel throughout the country photographing people on both sides of the conflict. While the press thrive on conflict, they strive their best to remain impartial.
A separatist group known as the Western Forces comes to power. Led by individuals in California and Texas, they feel the current president (Nick Offerman) has too much power. For the past three years, he has been president and fear he won’t stop there. As a result, they pool together their resources and make a plan to overthrow the government.
For hear that the group succeeds, the president disbands the FBI and authorizes airstrikes on his own citizens. On the brink of war, the journalists witness war crimes on both sides. Not only must they document the rising tensions, they must survive in the process.
The film is the brain child of writer and director, Alex Garland. Fearing the ghosts of the past, he created it to be a wake-up call of what the United States could look like. “It’s really a film about why polarization is not a great thing.”, he told TIME magazine.

Due to the subject matter of the movie consisting of violent content, disturbing images and language, the film is rated R.
