An unlikely band of rogue characters could be the key to defeating the Nazis in Guy Ritchie’s new film, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.
What is The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare About?
Inspired by true events, the film is based on the book, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare: How Churchill’s Secret Warriors Set Europe Ablaze and Gave Birth to Modern Black Ops, by Damien Lewis. Directed and co-written by Guy Ritchie, the film covers Operation Postmaster. In 1940, Winston Churchill formed a covert British World War II organization called the Special Operations Executive. The goal was to conduct espionage and sabotage by striking against German forces behind enemy lines. As the forerunners of modern day black operations and the British SAS (Special Air Service), they change the course of the war.
As misfits, this group of highly skilled military soldiers are perfect for a first-ever special forces mission. Leading this motley crew is Gus March-Phillips (Henry Cavil), whose members include author, Ian Fleming (Freddie Fox). Using unconventional methods, the group demonstrate their ability to undertake operations, no matter the political consequences. Making up the rest of the group are Marjorie Stewart (Elza González), Anders Lassen (Alan Ritchson and Heron (Babs Olusanmokun).
With movies such as The Covenant and The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Guy Ritchie is no stranger to stranger to comedic spy action films. As with the Sherlock Holmes series, his movies feature dark humor and unusual characters. His most recent project is The Gentlemen, now streaming on Netflix.
