Be careful what you pray for. Sydney Sweeney stars as a devout nun who may or may not bring about the birth of the devil in Immaculate.
What is Immaculate About?
After nearly drowning to death as a child, Cecilia (Sweeney), turns to religion and decides to become a nun. As an adult, she receives an invitation to tend to dying nuns at a convent in the country-side of Italy. But she notices things aren’t always as they seem at her new residence. Her new home harbors a “sinister secret and unspeakable horrors”.
One day, Cecilia is shocked to learn that she is pregnant, despite being a virgin. As a result, many at the convent begin treating her as the next Virgin Mary. They believe her pregnancy is a blessing and that she carries the second coming of Christ. Her child could save the world.
On the other hand, others believe her pregnancy is a curse. Believing she about to give birth to the devil, they do whatever they can to stop the baby from being born. Not knowing if her child could end or save the world, she does what she can to survive until the baby’s birth.
