What is Beetlejuice Beetlejuice about?
If you’re not familiar with the original 1988, Beetlejuice, the film follows the Maitland family who moves to a small town. Just after moving, the couple (Alec Baldwin & Geena Davis) die in an auto accident. Now confined to their house as ghosts, they continue to life their undead life in their home. Without the ability to pay their mortgage, their home is sold to the Deetz family (Catherine O’Hare & Jeffrey Jones).
Even though their teenage daughter, Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder), can see the ghosts, her parents are not planning on giving up their new home. After trying to scare the Deetz family away, the Maitlands seek the help of a deranged demon exorcist, Betelgeuse (Michael Keaton). But when they conjure him by saying his name three time, things don’t always go as planned. To rid themselves of the obnoxious demon, both the Maitland and Deetz family must work together.
Fast forward to the sequel, the death of a loved one has brought three generations of the Deetz family back to their home in Winter River. Lydia (Ryder) is all grown up with a teenage daughter of her own, Astrid (Jenna Ortega). While in the attic of her mom’s childhood home, Astrid discovers the model home town that brought Betelgeuse in the human world. Unknowingly, Astrid opens the portal to the Afterlife. And, of course, someone says his name three times. Now, both realms are in trouble. Still reeling from her childhood experiences, Lydia must gather the courage to help return the demon back to where he belongs.
