Peak into the world of The Hunger Games, years before Katniss Everdeen volunteered as tribute in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. It takes over 64 years before the first Hunger Games. As a matter of fact, Coriolanus Snow hasn’t become President of Panem.
The story follows a young Snow who is the last hope of his failing lineage. The once proud Snow family has fallen from grace in a post-war Capitol. With his livelihood threatened, he is reluctantly assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird. She is from the impoverished District 12.
After Lucy’s charm captivates the audience of Panem, Snow sees an opportunity to shift their fates. With everything he has worked for hanging in the balance, Snow joins forces with Lucy. To turn the odds in his favor, Snow must battle his instincts for both god and evil. He sets out on a race against time to survive and reveal if he will ultimately become a songbird or a snake.
If you are not familiar with 2012’s The Hunger Games, it is based on a trilogy of novels by Suzanne Collins. Each year a teenage boy and girl are chosen via a lottery to compete in televised games for the fate of their home district. The games are part entertainment, part government intimidation tactic. “Tributes” must fight with one another until there is only one survivor.
Katniss Everdeen, the heroine, is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts if she is to return home to District 12. During her trials, she makes impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.
The movie was followed by three more installments: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2. All of the installments can be watched on Prime Video.
