Based on the best-selling novel by Romy Hausmann, Dear Child, is a twisted story of a kidnapping that leads to truth behind an unsolved case.
The story begins with a young woman, Lena, who lives with two children; Hannah and Jonathan. But all is not as it seems. The house is highly secured and completely isolated from the rest of the world. The man that controls the house keeps them on a strict schedule. They eat their meals, use the bathroom, and go to bed according this schedule.
Whenever he enters the room, they must line up to show their hands so he can inspect them. “Our nails must be clean, and we mustn’t hide anything in our hands that we could use to harm ourselves or anyone else. Those are the rules.” They do everything he says.
After being controlled so long by her captor, Lena manages to escape. But during her escape he’s involved in a near fatal car accident. After waking up in the hospital with Hannah, the true extent of the nightmare begins. Upon hearing the news Lena’s parents arrive at the hospital. They have been desperately searching for their missing daughter for the past 13 years. As a result, she begins pointing investigators toward the truth behind her bizarre disappearance.
The Dear Child cast includes Kim Riedle, Naila Schuberth, Sammy Schrein, Hans Löw, Haley Louise Jones, Justus von Dohnányi, Julika Jenkins, Birge Schade, Christian Beermann, Seraphina Maria Schweiger, Özgür Karadeniz, and Jeanne Goursaud.
The screenplay is a collaboration between head writer Isabel Kleefeld and Julian Pörksen, with the pair also working together to direct the series. Tom Spiess and Friederich Oetker served as producers, which is accompanied with music by Gustavo Santaolalla and Juan Luqui.

The six part mini-series, Dear Child, will be available to stream on Netflix beginning September 7, 2023.
